The History

The name of this popular white wine comes from Custoza, a small village near Sommacampagna, a garrison along the via Postumia in Roman age and the site of great battles during the Italian Risorgimento, the period of struggle for Italian independence. The historical reference to the wine trade here dates back to 13th century, as the town began to take form around the fort.

The Wine

Bianco di Custoza is a dry but smooth wine, with a hint of bitterness and a distinctly winey perfume with flowery and fruity notes and lingering aftertaste. It is the ideal accompaniment to fish dishes and best drunk within the year after its harvest. The raisined passito is an elegant and finely balanced dessert wine underscored by a flavour reminiscent of jams and spices. It is also produced in the Superiore and Spumante sparkling version.
